Vail Pass Bike Path Opens to Top

The Colorado Department of Transportation has opened the Vail Pass bike path from East Vail to the top. The east side of the path, between the top of the pass and Copper Mountain, remains closed and will not open until the remaining snow melts naturally. CDOT cannot plow the path with machinery since the five timber bridges on this segment are not able to handle heavy snow-clearing equipment.

Summer Bus Service Begins May 27

Town of Vail buses will transition from the spring schedule to the summer schedule beginning Memorial Day, May 27. The summer schedule, which will run through mid-December, will provide free 40-minute to one-hour service on most outlying routes during peak times and one-to-two hour service on most outlying routes during non-peak times.

Free Curbside Chipping Service

The town will again provide a free curbside chipping service to assist with defensible space protections on private property. The service will be available beginning May 20 and will include chipping for trunks, limbs and slash up to 24 inches in diameter. The town has a dead tree ordinance that requires property owners to remove dead or diseased trees.

Board Openings

The Town of Vail is seeking community members to fill three vacancies on the Vail Local Licensing Authority and one opening on the Vail Local Housing Authority. Applications are due to the town by 5 p.m. May 28. Applicants will be interviewed by the Town Council at its June 4 afternoon work session, with appointments to follow at its evening meeting.

Memorial Day Schedule

Town of Vail municipal offices will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular office hours will resume Tuesday, May 28. Transit services will operate uninterrupted during the holiday. Call 911 for police, fire or medical emergencies. The police front counter in the Municipal Building will be open on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to assist with customer needs.

Free Sand and Bags Available

With warmer temperatures this week contributing to rising waterways, the Town of Vail has established three distribution points for free sand material and empty bags for residents and merchants who wish to safeguard their property from the possibility of high water.
