Vail Police Chief Dwight Henninger leads a Department composed of four divisions. These include the Office of the Chief of Police, Operations, Administration and Communications Center.

Commander Daric Harvey leads the Administrative Division which oversees the following functions: Investigations, Professional Standards, Accreditation, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention, Demand Reduction, Grants, Planning and Research, Auditing, Recruiting, Hiring, Training, Reserve Program, Court Liaison, Budgeting, Building Maintenance, Police Volunteers, and Administration.
The division includes one Grants and Records Manager, three Records Technicians, one Police Volunteer Coordinator, and numerous volunteers.
Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation
The Department earned accreditation from the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) in 2014. Accreditation is reserved for those law enforcement agencies that have demonstrated compliance with the Association’s standards. An internal review and assessment of the Department’s policies and procedures met CACP’s standards of excellence
The Operations Division oversees a Field Branch of five patrol sergeants, 16 police officers, and five full-time code enforcement officers.
The Field Brand includes Patrol and Code Enforcement. They perform a variety of duties including calls for service, routine reports, arrests, criminal investigations, traffic accident investigation, traffic enforcement, proactive and preventive patrol and general community activities. As with all other divisions of the Department, they are trained and empowered to make decisions and participate in activities which support the principles of community policing.
The uniformed civilian branch is comprised of five code enforcement officers who serve on two day-shift teams supervised by a patrol sergeant. They are responsible for the education and enforcement of non-criminal municipal codes, quality of life violations and assist with Vail Pass closures in instances of inclement weather or severe traffic accidents.

The Vail Public Safety Communications Center (VPSCC) is part of the Vail Police Department and is funded through a consortium of the Eagle County 911 Authority and 13 user agencies. The 911 Authority contributes the largest share of funds. Remaining funds are allocated to user agencies based upon the percentage of the total number of calls for service averaged over the past three years. In 2014, the Town of Vail’s share was 33.44%.
The state-of-the art facility is supported by an advanced computer aided dispatch system, enhanced 911 phone service, and superior emergency notification systems. Dispatchers hold certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch.
