Installation of the Third Annual Triumph Winterfest illuminated ice sculpture exhibition has been completed. Artists Lawrence Argent of Denver and Scott Rella of the Vail Valley have collaborated again to bring the Triumph Winterfest exhibition to Vail. “Are you listening…” is composed of several larger-than-life ice sculptures rendering the human ear. Exploring the “pathways of listening” Argent poses the questions, “What do we listen to? What or who is creating the sounds we listen to? When we do, how is it filtered through our systems of consciousness and knowledge?” “Are you listening…” engages the viewer to contemplate the interpretation of sound and conversation, especially in this day of modern technology. As the public is invited to explore this installation, the various sounds of the Village will emanate from the peaceful Gore Creek in the background, to the bustle of ski boots and the murmur of conversations enjoying and discussing this exhibition.

Triumph Winterfest has garnered national media attention. It has been named one of America’s best public art projects by the Americans for the Arts. The sculptures will be on view throughout the day and evenings, until the ice melts. A popular family-friendly event, Triumph Winterfest invites the public to explore the ice installation during the day, as well as in the evening when it is illuminated by energy efficient LEDs. Heightened security has been arranged as a precaution.

The project is funded by Triumph Development with additional support provided by US Bank, and Winmax Foundation. AIPP would also like to acknowledge Cogswell Gallery, Blu’s Restaurant, and Antlers at Vail for their support in the Third Annual Triumph Winterfest.
