9/9/2011

Beginning Monday, Sept. 12, the main Lionshead parking structure exit stairs at the southwest corner of the building will be closed until approximately Nov.15 to allow for the continued construction of the Lionshead Welcome Center. Pedestrian access from the parking structure to Lionshead Village will be via the center stairs to the lowest level and out the new west end vehicular drive. The Dobson/Library exit at the southeast corner of the parking garage will remain open throughout construction.

Single lane road closures will occur at East Lionshead Circle as underground utility work is performed. Flagging crews will be on site for the duration of the project to direct traffic and pedestrians as necessary.
Construction of the Lionshead Welcome Center by R.A. Nelson and Associates has been underway since April this year. The 10,600 square feet building includes programming on the ground level for a new visitor information center, a transit waiting area, public restrooms and ski lockers, plus Vail Recreation District youth services programs on the second floor and a community gathering space on the building’s top floor. The project is on schedule for a Dec. 15, 2011 opening.

For more information about the project, contact Tom Kassmel, town engineer, at 479-2235. For questions about the pedestrian detour and associated impacts, contact Paul Burbidge, R.A. Nelson superintendent, at 471-6047.
