CONSTRUCTION SEASON UNDERWAY
Contractors are allowed to work within the public right-of-way in Vail Village and Lionshead from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week between April 16 and June 26, with the exception of designated special event days. In Vail Village, no construction will occur on Sundays during the Vail Farmers Market beginning June 17.

WEEKLY CONSTRUCTION MEETINGS
Weekly construction update meetings are being held each Tuesday at 9 a.m. on the ground level of the Welcome Center in Lionshead during the spring construction season with the last meeting scheduled for June 26.  The meetings are used to provide information about ongoing and upcoming projects and to provide opportunities to address issues and concerns. Meetings will resume on Sept. 4 after the summer season. For more information, contact Leonard Sandoval with the Town of Vail at 479-2198.

VAIL POLICE: BE BEAR AWARE
The Vail Police Department is reminding contractors to be mindful about bears and other wildlife. Construction sites are required to use bear-proof containers. Be sure to remove all food items from vehicles and keep them locked. Report all bear activity by calling the police department at 479-2201.

VAIL VILLAGE
Gondola Construction, Vail Village Ski Yard
Construction of new gondola began April 16 and will continue to November. Construction activity is contained within the site. Construction access is through Vail Road and the Mountain Plaza Tunnel. The plaza lawn area is closed for the summer. Bicycle and pedestrian access will be maintained and the public restrooms will be open Memorial Day through Labor Day. LIONSHEAD
East Lionshead Circle Streetscape
Work includes storm sewer, pavers, lighting and landscape improvements. The work began April 16 and will be completed in November. No construction will take place during July and August. While pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times, the lane for buses and vehicular traffic on East Lionshead Circle is being narrowed to a single-lane closure at times with traffic control during daylight working hours. Site grading and prepping new bus stop is ongoing. Asphalt paving is scheduled to be complete by June 22. Contractor is B&B Excavating; contact is Steve DeGroat, 376-6430. Concert Hall Plaza Streetscape

Work includes storm sewer, pavers, lighting and landscape improvements. The work began April 23 at the corner of West Lionshead Circle and the South Frontage Road and is to be completed in November. No construction will take place during July and August. Work at Concert Hall bus stop has been delayed until fall of 2012. Contactor is B&B Excavating. Arrabelle Decks, 675 Lionshead Place
Work began April 16. Pedestrian access remains open throughout the mall. The project is nearing completion and disassembling of the scaffolding is to start the week of June 18. Staging area for materials is currently in the gondola courtyard. This is the main access and staging area for the project. Contractor is G.E. Johnson Construction Company. Lion Square Lodge, 660 Lionshead Place
Work began April 16 and includes additions and exterior renovations at Lion Square Lodge East and Lion Square Lodge South. All work is contained within construction fencing. East wing contractor is J.L. Viele Inc. Contact is Tony Faulhaber at 471-5467. South wing contractor is Hyder Construction Inc. Contact is Jesse Carlson, 471-6532.

Vail Library Remodel, 292 West Meadow Drive
The library will reopen on July 5. The renovation work includes new book stacks and interior lighting upgrades, plus a new technology center, a new multi-purpose service desk and a remodeled community room. In addition, offices and storage areas are being constructed on the lower level which will be connected to the ground floor by an enclosed stairway and elevator. Satellite library services are available at Dobson Ice Arena until the library reopens. Contractor is Evan Chaffee Construction Group Inc. Town of Vail contact is John King, 376-0949.

OUTLYING
South Frontage Road Shoulder Widening
The second phase of the Frontage Road shoulder widening will provide 6’ wide paved shoulders from Bald Mountain Road through the East Vail Interchange. This will complete the project started in 2011 from Ford Park to Bald Mountain. Pending CDOT approval and issuance of a permit, work will take roughly two months to complete. The contractor is Icon, Inc. The Town of Vail contact is Gregg Barrie, 479-2337.

Slurry Seal Project
Crews hired by the Town of Vail will begin an annual street maintenance project on June 18. The slurry seal work will be taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and will continue to June 23. Slurry seal creates a new wearing surface and seals the asphalt to prevent the damaging effects of water intrusion into the pavement. The following roads are scheduled for this year’s project: Main Gore Drive, Snowshoe Lane, Grouse Lane, Ute Lane, Black Gore Drive, Black Bear Lane, Gore Circle, Juniper Lane, Meadow Drive, Meadow Lane, Nugget Lane, Glen Falls Lane, Columbine Drive south of Bighorn Road, Katsos Ranch Road, Booth Falls Road, Booth Falls Court, Manns Ranch Road, Bald Mountain Road and Mill Creek Circle. Single-lane traffic will be maintained at all times; however, motorists should expect delays. Traffic will be allowed to return to the new surface after it dries, typically after two hours. The project contractor is Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. of Salt Lake City. For more information, contact Town of Vail project engineer Chad Salli at 479-2169.

Bald Mountain Berm Utility Relocation
Work began April 16 and includes relocation of water and sanitary sewer mains and stormwater improvements to facilitate the west phase of the sand storage berm. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid June. Contractor is Schofield Excavation. Town of Vail contact is Chad Salli at 376-2389.
 
Water System Infrastructure; refurbish pump station near Booth Falls Trailhead

Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is conducting work largely internal to pump station, with heavy machinery in the vicinity. ERWSD contact is John Cahill at 471-5357.
