The Town of Vail is seeking qualified applicants to fill vacancies on two citizen boards. Openings exist on the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council (VLMDAC) and the Vail Commission on Special Events (CSE). Applications for the VLMDAC openings are due to the town by 5 p.m. Nov. 25 while CSE applications are due by 5 p.m. Dec. 9. The Vail Town Council will conduct interviews and make appointments to the VLMDAC on Dec. 6, while the interview and appointment process for CSE will take place on Dec. 20. Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council (VLMDAC)
Three vacancies exist on the VLMDAC. The terms of the three at-large members shall be for two years from January 1, 2017 and expiring Dec. 31, 2019. To qualify, applicants must be an owner of real property or taxable personal property in Vail. Corporations or entities that own property within the Town of Vail may forward a designee from their corporation or entity to be considered for the Advisory Council. The mission of the 9-member VLMDAC is to market and promote Vail to attract overnight guests primarily during the May through October time frame, creating economic vitality by increasing both the visitor base and sales tax revenues. Meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
Commission on Special Events (CSE)
Six vacancies exist on the CSE. Applicants must be a resident, property owner, business owner or employee within the Town of Vail. The terms of four members shall be for two years ending on Dec. 31, 2018. Terms for two members shall be for one year ending on Dec. 31, 2017, filling vacancies due to two resignations. Duties of the seven-member CSE include supporting the Town Council’s goals and objectives with decisions in alignment with the Town Council’s marketing direction. The mission of the Vail Commission on Special Events (CSE) is to support and assess a diverse collection of special events, both large and small, which promote Vail’s economic vitality, sense of community, and increase the quality year-round of the experience for guests and residents. The functions and/or duties of CSE shall include, but are not limited to, funding and seeking special events for the Town of Vail; evaluating event applications and event success; submitting an annual budget for operations and events; maintaining a balanced calendar of events annually; and all other functions as directed by the Town Council. CSE meetings are generally held on the morning of the first Wednesday of each month. The CSE also meets jointly with the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council twice annually and additional special meetings may be scheduled occasionally.
