Vail Holiday festivities will be continuing this week with a mix of stay-in family experiences and small celebrations that will culminate with fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Vail’s New Year’s Eve salute will take place at 6 p.m., Dec. 31 with the fireworks visible from most areas of the valley floor including Vail Village, Golden Peak, Lionshead Village and on the north side of Interstate 70. At 1:18 a.m. Dec. 30, Vail officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at Lion’s Ridge Apartment Homes, 1265 N. Frontage Road. When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from two, non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from an argument between the two roommates in their apartment. No other injuries were reported by neighboring tenants. The victim was transported to Vail Health hospital for medical treatment.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. Dec. 23, Vail police officers on patrol near the intersection of Bridge Street and Gore Creek Drive learned that a physical altercation had just occurred nearby. The altercation began as a result of the victim not wearing a face covering in Vail Village. This incident escalated when the unidentified offender struck the victim in the face before fleeing the scene.

Most Town of Vail municipal offices will be closed for in-person and virtual services on Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday and will reopen Monday, Dec. 28. A similar closure will occur the following week during the New Year’s holiday with most offices closed Friday, Jan. 1, and reopening Monday, Jan. 4. New for the 2020 annual employee housing compliance, the Town of Vail Housing Department listened to feedback and created an online sworn compliance statement and compliance form.
Vail’s emergency order that had limited the size of private gatherings to a single household has ended as of Dec. 15. In allowing the order to sunset, Vail Town Council members said the emergency action had done its job in creating awareness and keeping the number of COVID-19 cases down during the Thanksgiving holiday.
