Community Members Invited to Nov. 14 Gathering to Welcome New Town Manager, Recognize Employee Achievements and Acknowledge New and Outgoing Town Council Members

Members of the community are invited to join in welcoming Greg Clifton as Vail’s newly-appointed town manager and to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of other town leaders during a public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Donovan Pavilion. In addition to Clifton, the gathering will recognize Vail’s new and outgoing town council members as well as the achievements of two staff members who have earned state and national honors for their professionalism and leadership.

Clifton, the former town manager of Telluride, has been on the job full-time in Vail since Sept. 25 and has been spending his initial weeks meeting members of the community, town boards and staff. Clifton’s wife, Tammy, and daughter, Emily, will be joining him at the reception.

Also to be acknowledged during the gathering will be the accomplishments of Street Superintendent Charlie Turnbull and Police Chief Dwight Henninger. Turnbull, a 40-year-veteran of the Public Works Department, has been named professional manager of the year by the Colorado Chapter of the American Public Works Association, while Chief Henninger has been elected to a new leadership position on the executive board of the International Association of Chiefs of Police that will see him serve as president of the organization in 2021.

Clifton will be introducing the two during brief remarks at 6:30 p.m. which will also include a thank you to outgoing Town Council Member Dick Cleveland and to welcome the newly-elected and returning town council members following the Nov. 7 election. Cleveland has served on the Town Council from 2001 to 2005 and as Vail’s mayor from 2007 to 2011. He was elected to a two-year term in 2015.

Parking is free and light refreshments will be served during the reception. For additional details, contact Town Clerk Patty McKenny at 970-479-2136 or email pmckenny@vailgov.com
