Early Purchase Parking Incentive Ends Nov. 10

Buy your season pass by Nov. 10 and get a voucher good for a free day of parking to be redeemed any time during the season, a value of $30. The free voucher is good for individual customers and is being offered again this season to help reduce last-minute crowding. The offer does not apply to bulk purchases.

Paid parking in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures will coincide with the start of Vail Mountain’s 2017-18 ski and snowboard season which is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17. Once the new season is underway, satellite lots at Ford Park and the soccer field east of Golden Peak will become permit parking for employees. There will be additional adjustments mid-season when the soccer field parking lot will be closed to accommodate staging needs for the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships. The Ford Park lot may also be restricted for other events during the season.

To coincide with the start of paid parking, Vail Transit will add Lionshead Loop and Ford Park routes beginning Nov. 17 prior to implementation of the full winter schedule on Dec. 11. West Vail Express service will also be added for satellite parking on the North Frontage Road in West Vail.

There are five discount parking pass types available, plus an incremental rate structure for value cards. The town’s parking pass sales office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the winter. Previous value card holders are required to recertify their cards for the new season by stopping by the parking sales office in the Vail Municipal Building to show proof of employment, residency or property ownership. Pay-on-foot stations in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking garages enable pass holders to add value to their cards at any time once the card has been certified or re-certified by the town’s parking sales office.

In addition to the discounted parking pass and value card options, the town will continue to provide free entry after 3 p.m. in the two parking structures. Also, parking will be free for the first 90 minutes in the garages upon entry at any time. Vehicles are permitted to re-enter the structures after 30 minutes. Re-entering prior to the 30-minute period, or “looping” is a violation of the Municipal Code.

A merchant promotion program is being explored in partnership with the Vail Chamber and Business Association that would provide participating businesses with the ability to provide customers with a coupon for $5 off the posted parking rate as an incentive to take more time to shop and dine in the commercial core areas.

Hourly drive-up rates during the season will include the new pricing of $5 for 1.5 to 2 hours; $10 for 2 to 3 hours; $20 for 3 to 4 hours; $30 for 4 to 15 hours; and a $50 charge for overnight storage from 15 to 24 hours. There will also be a $50 charge for RVs and other over-size vehicles using the Charter Bus Lot east of the Lionshead parking structure. Failure to pay owed parking fees upon exit will result in a parking citation.

As an additional option, the town offers free parking in satellite areas serviced by the town’s free transit system. The inventory includes the following locations available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.: Gore Creek Trailhead, East Vail Interchange Trailhead, Pitkin Creek Trailhead, Booth Falls Trailhead, Spraddle Creek Trailhead, Red Sandstone Creek Trailhead, Buffehr Creek Trailhead, Davos Trailhead and Red Sandstone Park. Parking availability is limited and some spaces are restricted to three-hour trailhead use.

Free parking will also be available at Donovan Park with 90 spaces on days when the pavilion isn’t in use. A sign will be used at the park’s entrance to indicate availability each day. Parking availability for Donovan Park will be updated regularly on vaileventparking.com.

In addition, first-come, first-served free skier parking, 75 spaces, will be available on the North Frontage Road across from the West Vail Mall seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Additional free skier parking, 100 spaces, will be available on the North Frontage Road west of the West Vail roundabout on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. As an additional incentive, an express bus will be added this season via the new I-70 Vail underpass for convenient access to Vail Village and Lionshead.

Free emergency parking along the South Frontage Road will again be activated in overflow parking situations this season. Easily identified bus stops will be in use along the Frontage Road for added convenience. Real-time parking structure counts for the structures are available at vailparkingcounts.com and on the free Vail App.
