Economic Development Manager Named Tourism Professional of the Year
Kelli McDonald, economic development manager for the Town of Vail, has been named Tourism Professional of the Year by the Vail Valley Partnership. McDonald received the recognition during the VVP’s 12th Annual Success Awards on May 15. McDonald has worked for the town since 2007 and has been responsible for leading the town’s marketing and special events initiatives which has resulted in record visitation and sales tax revenues in 2014. She has also been instrumental in helping to recruit major international events to Vail including the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships and the US Pro Challenge. In addition, McDonald served as a member of the Local Organizing Committee that helped plan the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships which brought additional international recognition to the valley.
Mayor Andy Daly says McDonald’s contributions to the community have been impressive. “She drives our tourism and event platform with thoughtful determination, leadership finesse and a focus on results,” he said. “She is a tremendous asset for our town and the Vail Valley as a whole.”
McDonald says it’s great to be part of a community that recognizes the benefits of economic development. “It makes the Vail Valley the best place to live, work and play for our residents and guests. I am truly honored to receive this award."
Also receiving recognition by the Vail Valley Partnership was the Town of Vail’s actively green environmental programs led by Kristen Bertuglia, environmental sustainability manager. The programs include a community wide recycling initiative which began in July 2014.
