The Vail Town Council has voted 7-0 to give final approval to an ordinance that extends the town’s temporary ban on retail marijuana sales. The decision occurred at the Tuesday, July 7 meeting following a public hearing.
A temporary ban had been in place since July 15, 2014 and was set to expire on Aug. 4, 2015 following an earlier extension. The new extension contained in Ordinance No. 8, Series of 2015, expires on Oct. 6, 2015.
Also at the meeting, the Town Council directed staff to prepare an ordinance that would permanently ban retail marijuana sales in town. The direction occurred after Council Member Dave Chapin indicated his interest in offering a motion to implement a three-year ban on retail marijuana sales. The ordinance will be scheduled for public hearings on July 21 and Aug. 4 and requires two readings for approval.
