Final Approval to Extend Temporary Ban on Retail Marijuana Heads to Town Council

  • 1 July 2015
The Vail Town Council will consider final approval of an ordinance to extend the town’s temporary ban on retail marijuana sales at its meeting Tuesday, July 7. The item is listed ninth on the meeting agenda which begins at 6 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers with opportunities for public comment.

The ordinance provides for an extension of the temporary ban to allow for more information-gathering requested by the Town Council. During a discussion on June 2, the Council directed staff to research the impact of retail marijuana sales practices in Aspen and Breckenridge as well as impacts experienced by the local lodging community given the statewide consumption restrictions. Information on regulations associated with a club concept were also requested to better assist the Town Council in making a decision on what Vail’s future marijuana policy should be.

A temporary moratorium has been in place since July 15, 2014 and is set to expire on Aug. 4, 2015 following an earlier extension. The new extension contained in Ordinance No. 8, Series of 2015, will expire on Oct. 6, 2015.

Review the ordinance or email the Town Council in advance of the meeting with your comments at towncouncil@vailgov.com.
