The next phase of improvements to Ford Park begins this week. This includes work on the park’s lower bench area with the construction of a new restroom near the playground, improvements to the playground, an extension of the water main and installation of concrete pavers on Betty Ford Way to the Manor Vail covered bridge. The cost of the project is approximately $1.3 million and is funded from the Real Estate Transfer Tax fund. The contractor is RA Nelson of Avon.
Pedestrian access for parking pass holders using the Ford Park lot is available to the Nature Center Bridge and Vail Valley Drive will remain open during construction. Access to the playground area will be through the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. West Betty Ford Way from the Frontage Road to the Manor Vail Bridge is currently closed and will remain closed through the duration of the construction.
This work is occurring adjacent to the construction site for the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens Education Center. Both projects are scheduled for completion in June.
The last phase of improvements scheduled for Ford Park will be wayfinding enhancements and entry portals which will take place later in the year or in 2016. For more information, contact Todd Oppenheimer, the town’s capital projects manager, at 970-479-2161.
