Get Your Discounted Vail Parking Pass Before the Season Starts

Season parking passes are available for purchase on the lower level of the Municipal Building, 75 S. Frontage Road. Paid parking in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures begins Friday, Nov. 16.

Vail’s winter parking pass rates and related policies were adopted by the Town Council at its Oct. 16 meeting after reviewing recommendations from its citizen-based Parking & Transportation Task Force. This includes the return of two-hour free parking, no price increases for season pass discounts or hourly parking, and introduction of an additional employee pass option for access to the new Red Sandstone parking garage which will open next month.

The new Red Pass is priced at $450 and will be sold to eligible employees of Vail business license holders. The garage is located at 559 N. Frontage Road W. and will provide up to 120 spaces for pass holders Monday through Friday and will expand to 160 spaces on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays.

Another change this year will be restoration of the two-hour free parking period in the structures. This was shortened to 90-minutes last season to create more turn-over of spaces and make it harder for abuses by those who routinely move their vehicle to avoid paying for parking. However, the town fielded numerous complaints indicating the 90-minute period didn’t allow enough time for shopping, dining or enjoying activities at the library or Dobson Arena.

Also returning this season will be free parking in the structures upon entry after 3 p.m. This program was introduced in 1996 to encourage après ski vibrancy and has become popular with guests and residents.

With the addition of the Red Pass, there will be six discount season parking passes available this winter, plus an incremental rate structure for value cards. Rates are unchanged from the previous season. The town’s parking pass sales office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the winter. Descriptions of the available parking passes and qualifications are as follows:
