The Town of Vail and Vail Recreation District are pleased to announce that the newly-renovated Golden Peak Racquet Sports Facility is now open for pickleball play. Construction on the remodeled courts began in June and six permanent pickleball courts now occupy the space where four tennis courts once stood.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and has become a popular activity in Vail. Pickleball is a paddle sport open to all ages and levels with easy rules for beginners, and can be a fast-paced competitive game for more experiences players.
Throughout the summer, the VRD operated indoor and outdoor drop-in pickleball programming, and outdoor pickleball play at Donovan Park will now move to the new Golden Peak facility until the courts close for the winter. Indoor pickleball will continue with the summer schedule throughout the winter, with drop-in play available at Red Sandstone Elementary School on Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.
Drop-in rates for both indoor and outdoor pickleball will hold steady at $5 per person, with season passes also available and valid at both indoor and outdoor locations.
Auxiliary functions at the venue will come online shortly, and the public is invited to come see and enjoy the new court surface now before the facility closes for the winter. A grand opening celebration will be scheduled in the spring of 2017.
