A new election calendar established for Vail’s 2017 regular municipal election means candidates interested in running for one of four open seats on the Vail Town Council will need to file their paperwork well in advance of the Nov. 7 election. The calendar, based on revisions to the Colorado Municipal Election Code to accommodate active military and overseas voters, requires council candidates to file their paperwork by Aug. 28, which is four weeks earlier than in previous elections.
Nominating petitions will be available from the Vail Town Clerk’s Office beginning Aug. 8 for the candidates. A minimum of 10 valid signatures from registered voters in the town is required in order to appear on the ballot.
The four council seats which will become vacant are held by Jenn Bruno, Dave Chapin, Dick Cleveland and Greg Moffet. The four are eligible to run for re-election. The terms of the remaining council members, Kevin Foley, Kim Langmaid and Jen Mason run to November 2019.
To be eligible to run in the upcoming Vail Town Council election, candidates must:
- Be a citizen of the U.S.
- Be a registered voter within Vail
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a Vail resident for two years immediately preceding the election
Town elections are non-partisan.
