Vail’s newest public parking garage, located on the Red Sandstone Elementary School site at 559 North Frontage Road, officially opened at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 for use by eligible season parking pass holders. The lower two levels of the parking garage are available for daily access by employees who purchased the new $450 Red Pass. These spaces are also accessible to Green, Blue and Gold pass holders. Due to continued construction activity at the school, the upper two levels of the garage are restricted to allow for the safe movement of construction vehicles and related equipment during the remainder of the renovation.
With the opening of the lower levels of the new garage and its 80 available spaces, the Red Pass will no longer be accepted at the Lionshead parking structure effective Sunday, Dec. 23. Also, restrictions will apply to Green Pass holders Friday through Sunday in the Lionshead garage.
To access the new Red Sandstone garage, pass holders will activate an automated gate similar to the entry-exit systems used in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures. Authorized vehicles may remain in the garage for up to 48 hours.
The upper two levels of the new parking garage are being used for paid permit parking by Haselden Construction to allow for authorized access by construction workers and construction staging. The anticipated school completion is scheduled for mid-to late-March. The transition from the school’s temporary quarters in Minturn to the newly-renovated Red Sandstone site will be determined by school administrators.
Once construction on the site is substantially complete, a grand opening will be held to recognize a three-way funding partnership between Eagle County Schools, Vail Resorts and the Town of Vail.
