Staffing Changes Announced in Police Department

Daric HarveyOne of the Vail Police Department’s key leadership positions will be transitioning soon as Cmdr. Daric Harvey will be leaving the department to become chief of police in Canon City. A community reception to honor Harvey’s service will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1 at Vendetta’s in Vail Village. Harvey’s last day is June 4.    

Harvey has been with the Vail Police Department for five years and has worked as the Operations and Administrative commander.  Chief Dwight Henninger says Harvey is best known for his work around mental health and general community heath initiatives, where he served as chair of the countywide Total Health Alliance. He also successfully implemented the department’s body-worn camera program.

Ryan KenneyReplacing Harvey in the department’s commander role will be Ryan Kenney, a 22-year veteran of the Boca Raton Police Department in Florida. He is currently a lieutenant supervising the Major Criminal Investigations Unit. Kenney has worked in patrol, gangs, narcotics, K-9, marine patrol and the Special Weapons and Tactics unit.  He’ll be joining the department in mid-June and will be responsible for the Administration Division.

The Vail Police Department’s executive leadership staffing includes the chief, two commanders and the countywide 911 center director. The department is staffed by 28 sworn personnel and 35 civilians.
