Vail’s summer parking garage operations will remain free this season with a new ticketing system that allows the town’s parking staff to track daily activity within the Vail Village and Lionshead structures. Beginning Memorial Day and extending through the summer, drivers will be required to pull a ticket at the gate to activate entry into the parking garage; to leave the garage, the same ticket will need to be inserted at the exit gate. Parking hosts will be on site throughout the summer to assist guests in facilitating the free transactions. Instructional signs will be posted throughout the structures to remind users to keep their ticket to exit.
The ticketing system will be in use 24/7 to collect and analyze hourly and daily transactions to evaluate capacity trends and improve future operations. No other changes are being implemented this summer season which includes paid parking at Ford Park during peak event days and use of the South Frontage Road for free overflow parking.
Information on the 2017 summer parking activity will be reviewed in the fall by the Vail Town Council and members of the Vail Parking and Transportation Task Force to determine if additional management solutions should be considered for the future.
