Town Council Takes Final Vote on Permanent Ban on Retail Marijuana Sales Tuesday, Aug. 4

  • 29 July 2015

The Vail Town Council will take a final vote on an ordinance that will ban retail marijuana sales in town at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The item is listed seventh on the meeting agenda which begins at 6 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers with opportunities for public comment.

An earlier vote on Ordinance No. 10 was taken by the Town Council on July 21 in which six of seven council members supported the ban. The vote followed public testimony and emails from the community in support of the action. A temporary ban has been in place since July 15, 2014.

One of the provisions of Colorado Amendment 64, approved by voters in 2012, allows municipalities to “prohibit the operation of marijuana cultivation facilities, marijuana product manufacturing facilities, marijuana testing facilities, or retail marijuana stores through the enactment of an ordinance.”

As drafted, Vail’s ordinance allows for a review of the retail marijuana sales ban every three years.
