Town of Vail Celebrates America Recycles Day on Nov. 15
In recognition of America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, the Town of Vail is joining communities around the country in hosting a series of events to encourage waste reduction and recycling. The town’s environmental office is partnering with Walking Mountains Science Center on this year’s event. America Recycles Day is an initiative of Keep America Beautiful and is one day each year to help educate and spur action on recycling 365 days a year.

Everyone is encouraged to take the recycling pledge and commit to action over the course of the next year at The current national recycling rate is 34 percent while Colorado has an 11 percent recycling rate and Eagle County has a recycling rate just below 25 percent.

Recycling is one of the easiest opportunities for all of us save energy to make a positive impact in our community and world. This year, the Town of Vail is hosting a free household electronics recycling and paper shredding event. Electronics will be recycled with Blue Star Recyclers based in Denver, an E-Steward certified electronic waste recycler. Paper will be shredded with Alliance Moving from Gypsum and then recycled at the Eagle County Materials Recovery Facility. This event is funded by fees from the “kick the bag habit” program. It is currently illegal in the state of Colorado to dispose of electronics with your regular trash. This event provides an opportunity for residents to responsibly dispose of their old computers, TVs and Stereo equipment.

Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, to 2 p.m., Oversized Vehicle Lot,  Lionshead Parking Structure

This event is free to town residents, property owners, and those who work in Vail. Charges may apply for excessive volumes. No commercial collections accepted.
