Colorado Department of Transportation crews will be performing safety critical guardrail repair work on Wednesday, July 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Exit 173 (West Vail). The eastbound off-ramp at Exit 173 will be closed for these repairs and motorists are encouraged to utilize I-70 to Exit 176 as an alternate route. All other off and on ramps in Vail will be open.
This work does not impact the I-70 Vail Underpass project or its detour routes. Eastbound motorists who would normally take exit 173 (West Vail), will need to exit at Exit 176 (Vail Town Center) and then head back west to West Vail on either I-70 westbound to the Exit 173 westbound off ramp or take the North Frontage Road west to West Vail. Motorists will not be able to take the South Frontage Road west through to West Vail since the South Frontage Road will be closed to westbound traffic at the I-70 Vail Underpass project site, near Cascade Crossing which is just past Forest Road and the Vail Resorts maintenance yard.
