At approximately 4:50 p.m. Sunday, March 4, Vail police officers received a shoplifting report from the Tommy Bowers Ski shop located at 141 E. Meadow Dr. in Solaris Plaza in which $1,000 worth of merchandise had been stolen. Upon investigation, police learned two male suspects had been targeting high-end retail stores where they allegedly stole ski apparel and accessories, storing the stolen items in their vehicle, identified as a white Kia Soul. Vail officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle after the suspects were identified by the store employee.
The Vail Police Department believes the suspects have stolen in excess of $20,000 worth of items from multiple other locations and are working to identify those retailers. Targeted brands recovered by Vail Police include men’s Altrec clothing, Garmin electronics, North Face clothing and accessories, Arc’teryx clothing and Kjus ski clothing.
The suspects are identified as Bounkhong Phongboupha, 39, of Pinole, Calif. and Alan Badasack Phongboupha, 27, of Thornton, Colo. The men have been charged with second degree burglary, theft, criminal impersonation and criminal possession of identification.
The suspects are currently in custody in the Eagle County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
