Vail Police Establish Safe Zone for Online Transactions

  • 31 August 2015

Do you need a safe place to conduct in-person exchanges for items you bought or are selling from online classifieds? To decrease the risk of becoming the victim of a crime, the Vail Police Department offers buyers and sellers two safe zones in which to finalize transactions. The department lobby is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and the video-monitored parking lot at 75 S. Frontage Road is available at any time day or night. Police department personnel do not need to be involved in the transaction but are available to check serial numbers to ensure items are not reported stolen.

While the majority of Craigslist and other online transactions are completed safely, the Vail Police Department wants to ensure that citizens and visitors in the Town of Vail and Eagle County have a safe option for a meeting place. No appointment is necessary.

Other safety tips for conducting sales transactions which originate online include carrying a cell phone with you to the meeting place, having a friend accompany you to the meeting and using special caution when buying or selling high-value items.
