Vail Resolves to Continue Climate Change Actions

The Town of Vail is committed to work diligently to reach its 20 percent by 2020 local emissions and reductions goal. That’s the message from Mayor Dave Chapin who has been fielding questions from the community following the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate accord.

The Vail Town Council has taken several actions recently to show its resolve to continue its work at the local level. This includes passage of Resolution No. 16, Series of 2017, signing on to the Mayor’s National Climate Action Agenda and opposing the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement. In addition, Mayor Chapin represented Vail in signing the Compact of Colorado Communities which was held in Aspen on May 19.

One of the stated goals of the Compact of Colorado Communities is to act on climate change by focusing intently on building decision-making capacity and expertise within local governments. Chapin says the town is committed to the climate action goals which are aligned with community priorities.
