Weekly Construction Meetings Begin April 11 for Season

Beginning Tuesday, April 11, the Town of Vail will host weekly construction meetings to review upcoming project schedules with an emphasis on public and private construction activity in Vail Village and Lionshead. Neighbors, contractors and others impacted by the spring construction are invited to participate. The meetings will be held at 9 a.m. each Tuesday on the ground level of the Welcome Center in Lionshead and will continue to Nov. 14.

Among the projects that will begin on April 24 is a continuation of remodel activity in the Vail Village Transportation Center terminal. The work includes a remodel of the ECO Transit office on the fourth level. The ECO staff will have a temporary office in the Vail Village Welcome Center during this time. Also, the third level of the Transportation Center, including the La Cantina restaurant, will be closed to allow for new tile, paint and lockers.

Golden Peak/Vail Village

Tree Cutting Project along Streamtract
Beginning April 10, multiple contractors will be removing dead and diseased trees along the Gore Creek streamtract between Ford Park and Vail Valley Drive in a concentrated effort to reduce the impacts of spruce beetle. Crews will be working daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. cutting and hauling nearly 70 blue spruce trees along the town-owned property. The trees identified for removal have been determined to be safety hazards for pedestrians and bicyclists or are currently infested with spruce beetle. The affected streamwalk area for this first phase of cutting will be closed to the public during work hours. No other impacts are anticipated and access to the back stairs at the nearby Wren at Vail will be maintained.

Curtin Hill Building, 254 Bridge Street
This is a major remodel of the building and is currently going through the approval process. Start date is to be determined.

Plaza Lodge, Unit R1, 291 Bridge Street
This is a remodel to a second story unit above the Christy Sports store. The project is currently going through the approval process. Start date is to be determined.

Red Lion Inn Condo # 3 Renovation, 304 Bridge Street
This project is schedule to start on April 25 with a completion date of spring of 2018. A crane is required which will necessitate a closure of Bridge Street. These dates have yet to be determined. Contractor will notify all merchants and properties in the area prior to any closure. Work consists of adding 714 square feet to level 1 and level 2 of the unit. Row House Units 11 & 12, 303 Gore Creek Drive
This work includes an interior remodel and addition. Completion date is currently scheduled for spring of 2018.

Row House Unit 8, 303 Gore Creek Drive
This is an interior and exterior remodel. The start day is scheduled for April 24, with a completion date scheduled for fall of 2018. Contractor is Cuccia Construction, Guy Cuccia, 970-471-6456.

Xcel Energy, Beaver Dam Road Asphalt Overlay
A 2” mill and asphalt overlay on Beaver Dam Road is the remaining work to complete the new main gas line that was installed in the fall of 2016. Work is scheduled for mid- May and will be completed by mid-June.

Lionshead Village

Vail Valley Medical Center Phase 1: West Wing, 181 West Meadow Dr.
This project consists of a new fourth floor and expansions on the south and west sides. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use West Meadow Drive. All other patients and visitors should access the hospital via South Frontage Road West. Phase I is scheduled to be completed late summer 2017.

Lion Square Lodge Exterior Improvements, 660 Lionshead Place
Project includes replacement of the staircase leading from top of embankment to event space on the south side of building, plus new stone path and landscaping improvements. Proposed start date is April 17 with completion by May 26.

The Lion Redevelopment (formerly Strata and Lionshead Inn and Lionshead Annex), 705 W. Lionshead Circle
Landscaping and other remaining improvements will be completed this spring.

Ford Park/Golf Course Neighborhood

Vail Golf & Nordic Clubhouse Repairs, 1775 Sunburst Drive 
Completion on the remaining construction punch list items and landscaping are underway. Interior work started on March 27 with completion scheduled for mid-May. Contractor is Evans Chaffee Construction Group.

Outlying
I-70 Vail Underpass projectThe I-70 Vail Underpass Project has begun the fourth and final phase of construction. Major construction activities resumed April 3. The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2017. For updated project information visit www.codot.gov/projects/i70vailunderpass, or call the project hotline at 970-685-7706. East Vail Berm
Expansion of the East Vail berm has resumed this spring as trucks are hauling dirt from the Chamonix Vail property to the berm site via Bald Mountain Road. In total, nearly 8,000 cubic yards of dirt will be added during the 60 day period from April 3 through the end of May.

Chamonix Vail, 2310 Chamonix Road 
Site work, including completion of the deep utilities infrastructure and start of overlot grading and mass excavation, has begun. In addition to construction activity happening on the development site, end dump semi trucks will be coming to and leaving the site regularly. Once the initial site work is completed, vertical construction on the site will begin.  Construction activity will continue through the anticipated completion date of March 31, 2018.

Booth Creek Park Redevelopment, 2900 Manns Ranch Road
The remaining work on construction of Booth Creek Park includes completion of the playground and the landscaping. The work on the playground area is expected to be completed by April 30. The landscaping is scheduled to begin on May 1 and be completed around May 15. There will be some on going minor work on the buildings and other portions of the site. The construction fence will continue to encompass the playground area only. Park visitors are welcome to walk through the park but the paths will not be maintained in the winter. The overall project involves a compete redevelopment of the existing park and includes new hard-surface tennis courts, picnic pavilion, restrooms and children’s playground.

Donovan Park Picnic Shelter
Construction of a new picnic shelter for Donovan Park continues. Work is contained within a 6-foot high construction fence between the playground and the basketball court. Walkways will continue to be open. The new structure will accommodate three picnic tables and will be completed by the spring of 2017. 

Hotel Talisa (formerly Vail Cascade Resort and Spa) Renovation, 1300 Westhaven Dr.
This $50 million renovation project includes upgrades to guest rooms, restaurant, market, lounge and bar area, new spa and more. The Aria Athletic Club and Spa and Vail Cascade Condominiums will remain open throughout the construction, which is scheduled to be completed in spring of 2017.

Doubletree Hotel, 2211 North Frontage Road (formally the Holiday Inn)
Work includes renovation of the interior/exterior of the hotel, pool area upgrades and parking lot improvements. Start date was Aug. 15, 2016, completion date scheduled for mid summer 2017.
