East Vail Fire Station Remodel Complete

The newly-renovated East Vail fire station was re-dedicated last week during a traditional hose uncoupling ceremony. Station 1 was originally constructed in 1981. The re-dedication followed a nine-month renovation of the station which modernized the facility and incorporated numerous upgrades. The station was staffed throughout the construction so as to maintain response standards to the citizens of East Vail. The project was designed by Pierce Architects and construction was completed by M.W. Golden Constructors. A public open house will be held in the spring. The renovation completes a multi-year facilities plan to improve Vail’s fire stations. This latest upgrade follows construction of the West Vail fire station in 2011 and a renovation of the Main Vail fire station in 2013.

Vail I-70 Underpass

This project is on hold during the winter months and will gear up again in April 2017. While many of the "heavy-lift" tasks were completed in 2016, such as utility relocation, major excavation, etc., there is still a significant amount of work remaining to complete the I-70 Vail Underpass project. When the project resumes in April, the big focus will be construction of the underpass roundabouts. The pavement currently in place is temporary for the winter season, so there will be another round of asphalt laid this year. The area beneath the underpass also needs to be fully built, including brick pavers, curb and gutters, and lighting elements. The underpass will also feature elevated sidewalks, requiring the installation of pedestrian guardrails. In addition, crews will need to tear down the detours used last summer and during this year's construction. There will also be finer detail work, namely landscaping and aesthetics pieces. Vail Village

Red Lion Inn Condo # 3 Renovation, 304 Bridge Street
This project is schedule to start on April 25 with a completion date of spring of 2018. A crane is required which will necessitate a closure of Bridge Street. These dates have yet to be determined. Contractor will notify all merchants and properties in the area prior to any closure. Work consists of adding 714 square feet to level 1 and level 2 of the unit. Vail Valley Medical Center Phase 1: West Wing, 181 West Meadow Dr.
Construction on the project continues with work contained within the construction fence. This project consists of a new fourth floor and expansions on the south and west sides.  All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use West Meadow Drive. All other patients and visitors should access the hospital via South Frontage Road West. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Lionshead Village

The Lion Redevelopment (formerly Strata and Lionshead Inn and Lionshead Annex), 705 W. Lionshead Circle
The Lion has received its Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO). Landscaping and other remaining improvements will be completed in the spring of 2017. Contractor is PCL Construction, Inc. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-479-2198.


Donovan Park Restroom Closure
Donovan Park restrooms are closed for plumbing repairs. Completion date is scheduled for mid-March. Town of Vail contact is John King, 970-479-2170.

Donovan Park Picnic Shelter
Construction of a new picnic shelter for Donovan Park continues. Work is contained within a 6-foot high construction fence between the playground and the basketball court. Walkways will continue to be open. The new structure will accommodate three picnic tables and will be completed by the spring of 2017. The contractor is R.A. Nelson. Booth Creek Park redevelopment, 2900 Manns Ranch Road
Construction of the Booth Creek Park redevelopment project continues but is on hold for the winter months. Site work and building construction is almost complete. The construction fence has been moved to encompass the playground area only. Park visitors are welcome to walk through the park but the paths will not be maintained in the winter. The parking spaces on Manns Ranch Road will no longer be plowed.  Completion of the playground and landscaping work will occur as soon as the weather and site conditions allow in the spring. The work involves a compete redevelopment of the existing park and includes new hard-surface tennis courts, picnic pavilion, restrooms and children’s playground. Hotel Talisa (formerly Vail Cascade Resort and Spa) Renovation, 1300 Westhaven Dr.
This $50 million renovation project includes upgrades to guest rooms, restaurant, market, lounge and bar area, new spa and more. The Aria Athletic Club and Spa and Vail Cascade Condominiums will remain open throughout the construction, which is scheduled to be completed in spring of 2017. General Contractors is PWI Construction working on the hotel improvements; Evans Chaffee Construction Group will work on the tennis court conversion. Doubletree Hotel, 2211 North Frontage Road (formally the Holiday Inn)
Work includes renovation of the interior/exterior of the hotel, pool area upgrades and parking lot improvements. Start date was Aug. 15, 2016; completion date scheduled for spring 2017.  Contractor is Peak Professional Contractors Inc. Contact person, Valerie Thodde, owner’s rep/ project manager, 954-675-1522.
