Weekly Construction Update Meeting
The last weekly construction update meeting of the fall construction season will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 in the Lionshead Welcome Center, 395 East Lionshead Circle. Facilitated by Leonard Sandoval, Town of Vail construction area coordinator, the meeting will include an update on projects such as the new skatepark at the Lionshead parking structure, expansion of Vail Valley Medical Center, realignment of the entry to the Vail Municipal Building and scheduled utility projects. Neighbors, contractors and others impacted by the various construction projects are invited to attend this final meeting. These weekly meetings will return in April for the start of the spring construction season.
Golf Course Clubhouse Renovation Meeting

Fall Construction Season
Contractors are allowed to work within the public right-of-way in Vail Village and Lionshead from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week from Sept. 8 to Nov. 15, with the exception of designated special events. All contractors must adhere to the construction guidelines which are described in the 2015 Vail Village/Lionshead Village construction information handout. Vail Police: Be Bear Aware
The Vail Police Department is reminding contractors to be mindful about bears and other wildlife. Construction sites are required to use bear-proof containers. Be sure to remove all food items from vehicles and keep them locked. Report all bear activity by calling the police department at 970-479-2201.

Golf Course Neighborhood
Vail Golf & Nordic Clubhouse Renovation, 1775 Sunburst Drive
Golf/Nordic temporary structures are complete and are open to the public. Due to weather, the parking lot has not been paved and is not open to the public, (pending weather conditions), Paving of the lot will be completed on Monday, Nov. 9, weather permitting. If on schedule, the parking lot will open on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Excavation and installation of the new sewer service line as well as the new storm sewer pipe are ongoing. The overall project includes significant improvements to the clubhouse, new utilities, drainage, parking lot improvements and the installation of temporary structures to allow for golf and Nordic operations during construction. Note: closing day for golf operations was Oct. 25. Nordic operations will begin on Nov. 2 with season pass and retail sales in temporary facilities. As part of the renovation, all existing uses of the building, such as the pro shop, Nordic center, restaurant and cart storage will receive significant improvements. The project also includes a modest expansion to accommodate community uses. The contractor is Evans Chaffee Construction Group. Vail Valley Medical Center Phase 1: West Wing, 181 West Meadow Dr.
Utility work is taking place on the southwest side of VVMC along West Meadow Drive, which includes relocating a fire hydrant, new electrical service and relocating a CenturyLink pedestal. A temporary lane and sidewalk closure is required Nov. 2-15. Traffic control will be provided. On Nov. 6-9, G.E. Johnson and Encore Electric will be working 24 hours a day on the main electrical service to the hospital; temporary generators are installed to keep the building operational. This project consists of a new fourth floor and expansions on the south and west sides. Steel deliveries and installation are ongoing. All construction vehicle access will enter and exit on Vail Road/West Meadow Drive. Please exercise caution with the delivery of materials and oversize equipment. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use West Meadow Drive. All other patients and visitors should access the hospital via South Frontage Road West. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Contractor is G.E. Town of Vail Municipal Building Parking Lot Improvements, 75 S. Frontage Road
Work continues with landscaping and restoration. Re-striping of South Frontage Road is scheduled for Nov. 9, pending weather conditions. This project includes relocating and improving the Municipal Building parking lot access, South Frontage Road improvements, the construction of new turn lanes to Vail Valley Medical Center and the Municipal Building and landscaping. Completion of project is scheduled for Nov. 13. Public access to the Community Development Building is on the north side of the Municipal parking lot. A limited amount of public parking is available on site. Traffic control is provided by Upper Valley Elite. Contractor is G.E. Johnson Construction Company, Andy Sandoval, 970-376-2532. Vail Village Parking Structure, third floor restrooms remodel (Near La Cantina), 240 S. Frontage Road West
The men’s and women’s restrooms have reopened following a full remodel of the third floor restrooms and locker rooms. Work included all new plumbing fixtures, countertops and tile walls and floors.
Gorsuch Building, Commissary Restaurant, 263 Gore Creek Dr.
Full service restaurant in the prior Ore House location, includes interior and exterior improvements. Project is underway with demo and exterior excavations. The estimated completion date is spring 2016. Construction fencing will be in place on town right-of-way along Bridge Street and Gore Creek Drive until Nov. 15. It will then be relocated to accommodate skier traffic. Contractor is Rocky Mountain Construction Group; contact is Mark Hallenbeck, 719-499-9248.
Sebastian Unit 507 reconstruction, 16 Vail Road
Tower crane has been removed; work continues to remove the scaffolding and restoration to the damaged landscape and sidewalk. Remodel consists of exterior and interior work to the fifth floor and roof. During construction, a temporary single lane and sidewalk closures on the South Frontage Road will be required to accommodate construction. Project completion date is April 2016. Construction activity within CDOT right-of-way will be completed by Nov. 15, 2015. Contractor is Haselden Construction. Contact is Brandon Hern, 303-482-7685.
Skatepark at Lionshead parking structure, 350 South Frontage Road West

The Lion Redevelopment (formerly Strata and Lionshead Inn and Lionshead Annex), 705 W. Lionshead Circle
Construction continues with concrete pours and steel deliveries. Construction activity is currently contained within the fence. Construction began last spring and is scheduled for a fall 2016 completion. Impacts include various periodic single lane closures along the South Frontage Road and West Lionshead Circle throughout the duration of the project. Contractor is PCL Construction, Inc. I-70 Vail Underpass Project
In preparation for the start of construction of the I-70 Vail Underpass Project in April 2016, CDOT is constructing temporary paved cross-over detours within the median of I-70 this fall. This work is taking place from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday (and some Saturdays) with the work anticipated to be completed by Nov. 13, weather permitting. Motorists may utilize the North and South Frontage Roads as alternative routes during the work to avoid delays that may occur on I-70 due to the single lane closures at MM 175, between the Vail Town Center I-70 Exit (Exit 176) and the West Vail I-70 Exit (Exit 173). The fall work will take advantage of the weather to ensure construction stays on schedule. Major construction will begin in April 2016. At that time, the median cross-over detours will be used to carry all lanes of I-70 traffic on either the eastbound or westbound sides while the underpass bridge is built on the opposite side of the highway. Rockledge Road and mid-Forest Road water, sewer and drainage improvements
In a joint project with the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District, water, sewer and storm drain infrastructure was upgraded on Rockledge Road and a portion of Forest Road. All major work is complete. Cleanup will continue through Nov. 13, as weather conditions permit. Work will resume after the 2015-16 ski season to complete final cleanup and small tasks (e.g., re-vegetation, top soiling) to fully reconstruct disturbed areas. Lion’s Ridge Apartment Homes construction (redevelopment of eastern half of Timber Ridge), 1265 N. Frontage Road W.
Buildings 1 and 2 (east side) are complete. Construction continues on buildings 3 & 4. Completion of entire project is scheduled for spring 2016. This project involves the demolition of 102 two-bedroom units and the construction of 112 new one and two bedroom units. Contractor is RA Nelson. Town of Vail contact is George Ruther, 970-479-2145.
Marriott Residences (formerly Roost Lodge), 1783 Frontage Road West

I-70 Bridge improvements at Eagle-Vail
This Colorado Department of Transportation project began last August and consists of repairing and rehabilitating both the eastbound and westbound bridge structures located near mile marker 168.7, at the point where I-70 crosses over both the Eagle River and Highway 6. More specifically, work includes girder repair, bridge deck repair and repaving. Structures, Inc. of Englewood is the contractor for the $8.1 million project.
