I-70 Vail Underpass Project
In preparation for the start of construction of the I-70 Vail Underpass Project in April 2016, CDOT will be constructing temporary paved cross-over detours within the median of I-70 this fall. The anticipated start date of the detour paving work is Oct. 7. Once underway, this work will be taking place throughout October between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and will extend into early November. Motorists may utilize the North and South Frontage Roads as alternative routes during the work to avoid delays that may occur on I-70 due to the single lane closures at MM 175, between the Vail Town Center I-70 Exit (Exit 176) and the West Vail I-70 Exit (Exit 173). The fall work will take advantage of the current good weather to ensure construction stays on schedule. Major construction will begin in April 2016. At that time, the median cross-over detours will be used to carry all lanes of I-70 traffic on either the eastbound or westbound sides while the underpass bridge is built on the opposite side of the highway.
