Weekly Construction Meetings

The Town of Vail is hosting weekly construction meetings to review upcoming project schedules with an emphasis on public and private construction activity in Vail Village and Lionshead. Neighbors, contractors and others impacted by the spring construction are invited to participate. The meetings are held at 9 a.m. each Tuesday on the ground level of the Welcome Center in Lionshead and will continue to Nov. 14.

Vail Police: Be Bear Aware

The Vail Police Department is reminding contractors to be mindful about bears and other wildlife. Construction sites are required to use bear-proof containers. Be sure to remove all food items from vehicles and keep them locked. Report all bear activity by calling the police department at 479-2201.

New Online Citizen Portal

 Customers of the Community Development Department now have access to a new 24/7 online citizen portal to submit applications for contractor registration and various construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. New Email Notification Service for Contractors and Consultants

Ford Park/Golden Peak

Ford Park Improvements
Work on several projects within Ford Park is underway. These projects include concrete paving repairs around the tennis center; the installation of a lighting control system for the path and parking lot lights; landscaping around the old schoolhouse; landscaping and site improvements along West Betty Ford Way; and reconstruction of the existing gate at the intersection of West Betty Ford Way and South Frontage Road. West Betty Ford Way is closed at the South Frontage Road intersection until Saturday, June 3 to allow for reconstruction of the gate and surrounding area. All access to the lower bench of Ford Park will be through East Betty Ford Way. The contractor is MW Golden Constructors. Town of Vail contact is Todd Oppenheimer at 970-479-2161.

Vail Village

Vail Village Transportation Center La Cantina Level Remodel
The third level of the Vail Village Transportation Center re-opened to the public on Saturday, May 26. This included the restrooms, locker area and lobby. The re-opening of the La Cantina restaurant is pending. Town of Vail contact is John King, 970-376-0949 or 970-479-2170.

Vail Village/Gore Creek Drive, Heat Main Repairs
Work is ongoing. The Town of Vail is removing some pavers and excavating to repair some leaks in two different locations on the heat mains on Gore Creek Drive in front of the Gorsuch Building, 232 Gore Creek Drive. One lane will be maintained at all times, traffic control will be provided. Town of Vail contact is John King, 970-376-0949.

Vail Village Parking Structure Cleaning and Restriping
Work is ongoing as weather permits. The Town of Vail is in the yearly process of cleaning and restriping the parking structure. Traffic cones will be set up to detour vehicles through the work zone. Please exercise caution in these areas. Town of Vail Contact is John King, 970-376-0949.

Curtin Hill Building, 254 Bridge Street
This is a major remodel of the building and is currently going through the approval process. Contractor has been granted approval to remove some interior items, a trash dumpster will be staged on site and fenced off. Construction start date TBD. Contractor is Olson & Sons Construction Inc., Tim Olson, 970-390-7303.

Sitzmark Deck Repairs, 183 Gore Creek Drive
Project is underway; work consists of removal and replacement of the concrete deck and stairs. A lane closure will be required on Willow Bridge Road during concrete pours, which will limit parking on the west side of Willow Bridge Road. Traffic control will be provided. Completion dated is scheduled for mid-June 2017. Contractor is ULF & Associates, LLC. David Germond, 970-376-3164.

Plaza Lodge, Unit R1, 291 Bridge Street
This is a major remodel to a second story unit within the Plaza Lodge, directly above the Christy Sports store. The project is currently going through the approval process. Contractor is Nedbo Construction. Start date TBD.
 
Red Lion Inn Condo # 3 Renovation, 304 Bridge Street
Bridge Street will be open during non-working hours. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Traffic control will be provided. Periodic single lane closure will occur during the off season. Completion date is spring of 2018.  Work consists of adding 714 square feet to level 1 and level 2 of Unit 3. Vail Valley Medical Center Phase 1: West Wing, 181 West Meadow Dr.
Construction on the project continues with work contained within the construction fence. Landscapers are on site working in the areas of the parking lot and the southwest side of the building. Interior work continues. Preparations are being made to start Phase II of the project which is currently scheduled for late fall 2017 or early 2018. This project consists of a new fourth floor and expansions on the south and west sides. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use West Meadow Drive. All other patients and visitors should access the hospital via South Frontage Road West. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Row House Unit 8, 303 Gore Creek Drive
Work consists of an interior and exterior remodel; work will be contained within property boundaries and construction fencing. Project completion is scheduled for fall of 2018. Contractor is Cuccia Construction, Guy Cuccia, 970-471-6456. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.

Row House Units 11 & 12, 303 Gore Creek Drive
A street cut to excavate for a new sewer service line is scheduled and requires a complete street closure for multiple days due to the depth of the sewer main line. The full street closure has been re-scheduled for June 12-16. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Traffic control will be provided. Detour to exit Vail Village will be through Hanson Ranch Road. Project consists of an interior/exterior remodel and addition. Project completion date is currently scheduled for spring of 2018. Lionshead Village

Lionshead Parking Structure Cleaning and Restriping
Starting roughly the week of May 29 or as soon as the work in the Vail Village parking structure is complete; the Town of Vail will start the yearly process of cleaning and restriping the Lionshead parking structure. Work is scheduled to take 5 to 9 days to complete. Traffic cones will be set up to detour vehicles through the work zone. Please exercise caution in these areas. Lion Square Lodge Exterior Improvements, 660 Lionshead Place
Project includes replacement of the staircase leading from top of embankment to event space on the south side of building, plus new stone path and landscaping improvements. Project is underway, with completion date mid June. Contractor is 10th Mountain Builders, Jeff Armistead, 970-471-0618. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.

Montaneros, 684 West Lionshead Circle
Work consists of structural repairs, waterproofing, roof extensions and re-roofing. Work is currently ongoing; completion date is scheduled for fall of 2017. Contractor is R.A. Nelson & Associates, Matt Anderson, 970-471-3459.

The Lion Redevelopment (formerly Strata and Lionshead Inn and Lionshead Annex), 705 W. Lionshead Circle
Scaffolding has been installed on the sidewalk along West Lionshead Circle; this is required to allow contractor to replace exterior doors within the building. Scaffolding will be in place until May 30. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Landscaping and other remaining improvements are underway and are scheduled to be completed by mid June. Outlying

Beaver Dam Road/ Xcel Energy, Asphalt Mill and Overlay Project
The final asphalt repair for Xcel Energy new gas main work on Beaver Dam Road has been rescheduled, work will now start on June 12. Work includes milling and overlaying roughly 1,500 feet of Beaver Dam Road starting at the intersection of Vail Road/Beaver Dam Road. Traffic control will be provided. Xcel subcontractor is Metro Paver Inc., Michael Brown. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.

I-70 Vail Underpass Construction
Frontage Road detours are in place and will remain in effect until the project is complete this fall. The North and South Frontage Roads in Vail are restricted to one-way travel for the short distance through I-70 Vail Underpass project site. All Frontage Road businesses, properties and residences will remain open and accessible during this phase of the project, but access points will vary in some instances. The Frontage Road traffic flow will mirror that of I-70 with the North Frontage Road serving westbound drivers only from Lion's Ridge Loop to Timber Ridge and the South Frontage Road serving eastbound drivers only from Cascade Resort/Hotel Talisa to Cascade Crossing. Outside the project work zone, the Frontage Roads will accommodate two-way travel between the West Vail and Vail Town Center interchanges. Frontage Road drivers who are traveling in the opposite direction of these one-way sections will be able to turn around or use alternate routes along I-70 or the opposite Frontage Road to reach their destination. Due to the construction, the West Vail Green line will be suspended while the West Vail Red line will run from the Vail Transit Center west on the North Frontage Road to the South Frontage Road. Please check spring bus schedule for details. There are no impacts to other transit providers, including ECO, Bustang and Greyhound. To accommodate increased summer travel, the South Frontage Road Vail Town Center roundabout has been restriped to allow two lanes of through travel from the south roundabout, through the north roundabout and onto westbound I-70.  The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2017. Vail Golf & Nordic Clubhouse Repairs, 1775 Sunburst Drive 
Completion on the remaining construction punch list items and landscaping are underway. Interior work started on March 27 with completion scheduled for end of May. Contractor is Evans Chaffee Construction Group.

East Vail Berm
Expansion of the East Vail berm has resumed this spring. End dump semi trucks are hauling dirt to the East Vail berm site. Access to and from the site is via Bald Mountain Road. In total, nearly 8,000 cubic yards of dirt will be added to the berm site during the 60 day period from April 3 through the end of May. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-479-2198.  

Chamonix Vail, 2310 Chamonix Road 
Site work, including completion of the deep utilities infrastructure and start of overlot grading and mass excavation, is taking place. In addition to construction activity happening on the development site, end dump semi trucks will be coming to and leaving the site regularly. Once the initial site work is completed, vertical construction on the site will begin. Construction activity will continue through the anticipated completion date of March 31, 2018. Booth Creek Park Redevelopment, 2900 Manns Ranch Road
The work on the playground area is complete and the playground is open. Residents can look forward to the Grand Opening ceremony on June 6 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Lunch will be provided. Town of Vail contact is Todd Oppenheimer at 970-479-2161.

Bighorn Park
Improvements to Bighorn Park are taking place. The work includes upgrades to the picnic pavilion and surrounding area as well as a stairway to improve access to the pond at the west end of the park. The contractor is MW Golden Constructors. Town of Vail project manager is Gregg Barrie, 970-479-2337.

Donovan Park Picnic Shelter

Hotel Talisa (formerly Vail Cascade Resort and Spa) Renovation, 1300 Westhaven Dr.
This $50 million renovation project includes upgrades to guest rooms, restaurant, market, lounge and bar area, new spa and more. The Aria Athletic Club and Spa and Vail Cascade Condominiums will remain open throughout the construction, which is scheduled to be completed in July. General Contractors is PWI Construction working on the hotel improvements; Evans Chaffee Construction Group will work on the tennis court conversion. Doubletree Hotel, 2211 North Frontage Road (formally the Holiday Inn)
Work includes renovation of the interior/exterior of the hotel, pool area upgrades and parking lot improvements. Start date was Aug. 15, 2016, completion date scheduled for mid summer 2017.   Contact person is Steve Bossart, Widewaters Construction, 970-618-4355.
