Construction Update Meetings
Update: The Construction meetings have been canceled until further notice. Contractors working in the areas of the Vail Village and Lionshead core areas will continue to communicate to the Public Works Department, providing updates and coordinating projects as it relates to construction activity within the right of way. I-70 Vail East to West Resurfacing Project
CDOT and contract partner Elam Construction have begun a resurfacing project on I-70 from mile marker 172 to 187 through Vail. The project has an anticipated completion date of October 2020. COVID-19 Related Announcements
The Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures are open with free daily and overnight parking. Overnight parking charges will begin Monday, June 29. Vail Transit will return to service beginning Monday, May 4 and will operate with the spring schedule. On-street construction parking permits are now available, with conditions. Please submit a Right of Way Use Permit and site plan to email@example.com for approval.
Online Citizen Portal
Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online citizen portal to submit applications for contractor registration and various construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. Vail Village Parking Structure
Restruction Corporation has begin structural repairs in the Village Parking Structure. There will be closures in multiple areas. For the safety of the public and the construction crew, please respect all closed areas. This work will be ongoing for several months. Town of Vail contact is John King, 970-376-0949.
Vail Village Parking Structure Landscaping
GH Daniels and Associates is installing new landscaping along the South Frontage Road at the Vail Village Parking Structure. The work will require closure of one lane at times. Crews will be placing boulders, restructuring planting beds and adding numerous new trees and shrubs. The work should be completed by May 15. Town of Vail contact is Gregg Barrie, 970-390-3286.
New Proposed Utility Projects
Holy Cross Energy, Main Vail Roundabout at the Four Seasons Hotel. Work requires excavation and the installation of two new switchgears. Proposed start date is TBD; work is allowed to start after April 15. The work should take roughly a week to complete, landscaping will take place soon after. Contractor is Holy Cross Energy.
Xcel Energy, Mill Creek Circle. Xcel Energy will be replacing approximately 900 lineal feet of steel gas main line that is damaged. Start date is TBD; work is allowed after April 15. The Town of Vail is working with Xcel to start and complete the work within the spring season. Contractor is Sitewise Corp.
Comcast Utility Bore, 12 Vail Road. Utility bore roughly 120 feet from the intersection of West Meadow Drive/Vail Road, north along Vail Road to 12 Vail Road. Start date TBD. Contractor is Sage Telecommunications. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.
Remodel, New Art Gallery, 100 E. Meadow Dr. Unit 12
Remodel of existing space to include new storefront with ADA accessible access and interior improvements. Start date was Dec. 1; proposed completion date is early May 2020. Contractor is Nedbo Construction, Mike Losey, 970-977-0329. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.
Mountain View Residence Phase II, 434 South Frontage Road East
Secondary steel and steel decking are ongoing as well as interior and exterior framing, plumbing, HAVC and fire sprinkler installation. Slifer Square Water Feature Replacement
BrightView Land Development, Inc. has substantially completed the work on the Slifer Square Fountain. The fountain will go into operation in May 2020. Minor site work and landscaping will occur at the same time. Town of Vail contact is Todd Oppenheimer, 970-479-2161.
Vail Health Master Facility Plan, 180 S. Frontage Road
Steel deliveries and concrete pours are scheduled on West Meadow Drive during this off season. Traffic and pedestrian control will be provided. Please exercise caution along South Frontage Road and West Meadow Drive. Phase II of the Master Facility Plan includes the tear-down and replacement of the current east wing administration building and garage, replacing it with a new parking garage and hospital building to house new emergency and imaging departments, as well as a new lobby, central plant, tenant space and material management department. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use Vail Road/West Meadow Drive. Hospital patients and visitors should park (valet parking only, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) in the hospital parking lot on West Meadow Drive. Patients and guests of the Medical Professional Building should park (valet parking, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) in the underground parking lot of the Medical Professional Building accessible by West Meadow Drive. Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the spring months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Construction activity will be contained within property boundaries and construction fencing. Project consists of an interior and exterior remodel. Completion date is late spring 2020. Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the spring months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Sunbird Park Fountain Repair, 575 E. Lionshead Circle
Icon Excavating is repairing a broken pipe in the pop-jet fountain at Sunbird Park. The work includes removal of surface paving materials and underlying slabs, excavation and installation of new piping. The work will be completed prior to June 1. West Lionshead Circle Crosswalk Installation
The Town of Vail has hired 360 Civil, Inc. to install a paver crosswalk across West Lionshead Circle from the Enzian to the Marriott at the intersection with Lionshead Place. West Lionshead Circle will be closed to thru traffic at this location from May 4-18. Access to points east of the closure and Lionshead Place will be from West Lionshead Circle’s east access. Access to points west of the closure will be from West Lionshead Circle’s west access. There will be no vehicular access across the closure point. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Red Sandstone Parking Garage

This project will include an asphalt overlay, maintenance repairs to several bridge-decks and installing guardrail that meet the new safety standard requirements. Additional work includes rumble strip installation, striping, drainage improvements, sign installation and erosion control. Motorists can expect east and westbound single lane closures, 10-15 minute delays and minor detours on the bike path.
