Weekly construction meetings are taking place every Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. on the ground level of the Lionshead Welcome Center until Nov. 15. Contractors working in the areas of the Vail Village and Lionshead core areas are asked to attend, provide updates, coordinate and communicate any impacts as it relates to construction activity within the right of way and to the general public; the pubic is invited to attend. Online Citizen Portal
Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online citizen portal to submit applications for contractor registration and various construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. Here’s a recap of the various construction projects currently ongoing in Vail.
Mountain View Residence Phase II, 434 South Frontage Road East
A 300-ton crane is staged in the parking lot to for the installation of the steel portion of the project which is currently underway. All oversized trucks will be staged along the South Frontage Road east of the Ford Park entrance. The north side of the parking garage within the construction fence area is the staging area for trucks and material deliveries. General contractor is Shaw Builders LLC. Main Vail Roundabout, Holy Cross Energy Repairs
The excavation work at the Main Vail Roundabout has been delayed until after the Labor Day holiday. Holy Cross Energy will be working to install new switch gear vaults within their utility easement; work includes pulling new cable and connecting as needed. This requires a single lane and sidewalk closure. Please exercise caution as you travel around them. Traffic control will be provided. Town of Vail Contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.
Mill Creek Bank Stabilization
Work will begin to stabilize the stream bank on Mill Creek in two locations. One is across the stream from Pirateship Park, the second adjacent to the Vista Bahn Building, just upstream of Hanson Ranch Road. The project will involve the placement of boulders along the stream edge and should be completed by Friday, Sept. 6. Contractor is Diggin’ It Riverworks. Slifer Square Water Feature Replacement
Construction work on the fountain will resume on Sept. 4. BrightView Land Development, Inc. will be on site working to replace the existing water feature in Slifer Square located between the Vail Village parking structure and the Covered Bridge. The work is required to eliminate the water leak and improve the safety of the water feature. The work is now scheduled for completion in fall 2019. The work zone will be expanded to close Meadow Drive to vehicles and the in-town bus route. The in-town bus will stop on the top deck of the Village Transportation Center. Ski and Snowboard Club Vail Redevelopment, 598 Vail Valley Drive
The bike path will be closed to the public for repairs Sept. 3-6. Phase I of the project has received a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy; areas still under construction are contained within the construction fenced area. Site grading, cleanup and landscaping continues. This is a redevelopment of the Ski and Snowboard Vail site to include a private and public club and multi-family residential dwelling units. Hill Building, 254 Bridge Street
This project is nearing completion. Remaining construction deliveries will continue to occur on Bridge Street for the project between 7 and 8:30 a.m. only. This is a major remodel of the building. Vail Health Master Facility Plan, 180 S. Frontage Road
Precast concrete and steel deliveries continue and will be unloaded from the South Frontage Road staging area. Precast delivery and concrete pours will continue on the south side of the site adding vehicle congestion to West Meadow Drive. Please exercise caution along South Frontage Road and West Meadow Drive. Phase II of the Master Facility Plan includes the tear-down and replacement of the current east wing administration building and garage, replacing it with a new parking garage and hospital building to house new emergency and imaging departments, as well as a new lobby, central plant, tenant space and material management department. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use Vail Road/West Meadow Drive. Hospital patients and visitors should park (valet parking only, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) in the hospital parking lot on West Meadow Drive. Patients and guests of the Medical Professional Building (US Bank) should park (valet parking, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) in the underground parking lot of the Medical Professional Building accessible by West Meadow Drive. Row House Units 9 & 10, 303 Gore Creek Drive
Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the summer and fall months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Construction activity will be contained within property boundaries and construction fencing. Project consists of an interior and exterior remodel. Row House Units 11, 303 Gore Creek Drive
Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the summer and fall months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Project consists of an interior/exterior remodel and addition. Project completion date has yet TBD. Contractor is SRE Building Associates, Casey Brune, 970-376-5568. Antlers at Vail, 680 Lionshead Place
Work consists of remodel/addition to existing lobby (3rd floor) and an addition of a 4th floor to the lobby which will be offices and a conference room. A new elevator will be included in the addition that will extend from the lower level of parking to the 7th floor. Along with the existing conference room and existing accounting offices, these areas will be remodeled into a new condominium unit. The Antlers courtyard will be closed during construction. Battle Mountain/Lazier Parking Garage, 534 East Lionshead Cr.

Lionsquare Lodge South Interior Renovation, 660 Lionshead Place
New driveway entrance to parking lot is open; work to remove old existing access is now underway. The project includes interior upgrades to the existing conference room, including new celling finishes, room dividers, lighting and interior trim and parking lot improvements. Contractor is R.A. I-70 Vail Pass Wall Repairs
The Colorado Department of Transportation is making repairs to eight walls on Interstate 70 – one in West Vail and seven along Vail Pass. Repairs will continue through the end of August with minor traffic impacts. Regular work hours are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Fridays until noon with the possibility of Saturday work when needed. Regular night time work hours for single lane closures on eastbound I-70 will be 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Work is weather dependent and subject to change. I-70 Avon to Vail Resurfacing
The Colorado Department of Transportation, with United Companies, is resurfacing all lanes and shoulders of I-70 between Avon and West Vail. They will also replace guardrail and bridge joints, extend the eastbound acceleration lane at the Minturn exit and improve drainage. Construction has begun and will continue through mid-October 2019. General working hours will be nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists can expect a single lane closure, both EB and WB I-70 during work hours, with speeds reduced to 40 mph for safety. All business access will be maintained but only temporarily altered. I-70 East Vail Landscape Improvements
Landscaping and punch list items are scheduled for spring/summer of 2019. Work began the week of April 22. The Town of Vail has contracted with Rocky Mountain Custom Landscapes to install landscape improvements at the East Vail interchange. This work follows the installation of the water quality improvements at the interchange completed earlier. Town of Vail contact is Chad Salli, 970-479-2169.
Bridge Road Structure Over Gore Creek Replacement
The town has contracted with Kraemer North America to replace the existing Bridge Road Structure over Gore Creek. The new single span bridge will replace the existing triple culvert structure. Since July 8, Bridge Road has been closed at Bighorn Road and Lupine Drive to facilitate the bridge construction. The bridge abutments have been poured and placing of the new bridge girders is planned for the week of September 16. Work within the Gore Creek channel will be on going installing rip-rap for bride scour protection. Please be aware that even with the best mitigation efforts in place, some sedimentation is to be expected. Project completion is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2019. Kinnikinnick Road Over Gore Creek Replacement
The town has contracted with G.A. Western Construction Company to replace the bridge deck on the western Kinnikinnick Road Bridge over Gore Creek. Starting July 15, the western Kinnikinnick Road Bridge will be closed to facilitate the bridge deck construction. The Vail Transit Intermountain bus stop will be relocated to the eastern intersection of Kinnikinnick Road and South Frontage Road (near the community garden) during construction. The new bridge deck has been poured, work will continue with waterproofing, bridge rail and guardrail installation. A reminder that the bridge is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. Forest Road Bridge Over Gore Creek Repair
The town has contracted with Icon Inc. to repair wing walls and install railing improvements on the Forest Road Bridge over Gore Creek. Since Aug. 12, the bridge has been closed to all traffic to facilitate the repair work. Traffic is being detoured via Beaver Dam Road and East Forest Road. The concrete to repair the bridge abutment has been poured. Work will continue on new bridge rail and guardrail. The project is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 27, 2019. North Recreation Path, 551 North Frontage Road
The Town of Vail has hired Haselden Construction to make improvements on the steep slope of the bike path between Sun Vail and the Pedestrian Overpass Bridge over I-70, near the Red Sandstone School. Works consist of re-grading the path and drainage improvements. Work will require the bike path to be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured along the frontage road to the east side of the Overpass Bridge. Traffic control will be provided. Red Sandstone School Renovation, 551 North Frontage Road
The exterior and site work (landscaping, etc.) is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 16, 2019. The project has included the complete renovation of Red Sandstone Elementary School. This included removal of the existing exterior finish material and installing new IECC compliant insulation and new exterior finishes, rearranging the existing school program and classrooms to allow for larger classrooms (to meet the current Eagle County School District standards). The new two-story addition along the south façade of the building has created a cafeteria, serving line and secure vestibule, all of which the school did not previously have. The second level of the addition expands the library space into a media center space as well. Contractor is Haselden Construction, Nate Ainsworth, 303-242-4041.
Red Sandstone Parking Garage, 551 North Frontage Road West
The parking structure levels 2 and 3 are closed for public use while ongoing punch list items are addressed. Level four is open only for school staff and teachers. Landscaping work continues. Solar Vail Apartments, 501 N. Frontage Road West
Project is contained within the construction fence. The former employee housing located just east of the Vail Gymnastics Center is being replaced with a 4-story, 65-unit rental housing development by Sonnenalp Resorts.
