Construction Update Meetings

The Construction meetings have been canceled until further notice. Contractors working in the areas of the Vail Village and Lionhead core areas will continue to communicate to the Public Works Department, providing updates and coordinating projects as it relates to construction activity within the right of way. COVID-19 Related Announcements

The Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures are open with free daily and overnight parking until the start of ski season. Vail Transit is operational with the summer schedule; face masks are required for drivers and all passengers. Town of Vail offices are open for in-person services by appointment. For an update on Town of Vail plan review, permits, building inspections and other services, visit www.vailgov.com. For construction safety information, check here.   

Online Citizen Portal

Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online citizen portal to submit applications for contractor registration and various construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. Vail Village

La Taberna Iberica Patio, 100 E. Meadow Drive Unit 15 
Includes excavation and construction for new site wall and foundation stem walls. The purpose of the construction is to create a new patio dining area. Construction fencing will be erected to enclose the perimeter of the work area. Project start date was May 18; completion of work is mid-October. Contractor is Rocky Mountain Construction Group, Jonny Cohen, 970-471-9258. Xcel Energy, Mill Creek Circle  
Xcel Energy has contracted with Sitewise Corp to install a new main gas line between the properties of 304 Mill Creek and 345 Mill Creek Circle. Sitewise will attempt to bore in the gas line to limit the amount of disturbance . If they are unable, they will proceed with an open trench. Start date is the week of September 21, completion date is November 1. When the work has been completed, the disturbed asphalt areas will be patched.  A full mill and 1’.5 “ mill and asphalt overlay will complete the restoration. Weather and temperatures will determine if the full restoration can be completed this fall or be delayed until the spring of 2021.Traffic control will be provided. Contractor is Sitewise Corp, Jarrett Schaub, 303-430-1414; Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677. 

Remodel, New Art Gallery, 100 E. Meadow Dr. Unit 12  
Remodel of existing space to include new storefront with ADA accessible access and interior improvements. Start date was Dec. 1; proposed completion date is mid-October. Contractor is Nedbo Construction, Evan Gould, 970-977-0330. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.   

Mountain View Residence Phase II, 434 South Frontage Road East   
Sidewalk improvements within the South Frontage Road right of way are scheduled to start the week of Sept. 21; work requires a full lane shift on the South Frontage Road to allow removal of the existing walkway and installation of a new heated walkway. Completion of work is scheduled for mid-October. Traffic control will be provided. Construction activity includes interior and exterior framing, plumbing and fire sprinkler installation. The north side of the parking garage within the construction fence area is the staging area for trucks and material deliveries. General contractor is Shaw Builders LLC. Jim Heid, 970-904-5669. Vail Health Master Facility Plan, 180 S. Frontage Road   
Curb and gutter, and pedestrian walkway improvements along West Meadow Drive were scheduled to start Sept. 8, with a completion date of Nov. 15. This work will require a single lane and full sidewalk closure. Pedestrians will be rerouted to the south side of West Meadow Drive. Phase II of the Master Facility Plan includes the tear-down and replacement of the current east wing administration building and garage, replacing it with a new parking garage and hospital building to house new emergency and imaging departments, as well as a new lobby, central plant, tenant space and material management department. All hospital services will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction. To access the Emergency Department, use Vail Road/West Meadow Drive. Hospital patients and visitors should park (valet parking only, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) in the hospital parking lot on West Meadow Drive. Patients and guests of the Medical Professional Building should park (valet parking, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) in the underground parking lot of the Medical Professional Building accessible by West Meadow Drive. Row House Units 9 & 10, 303 Gore Creek Drive  
Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the summer months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Construction activity will be contained within property boundaries and construction fencing. Project consists of an interior and exterior remodel. Completion date is December 2020. Contractor is Beck Building, Gary Kendall, 720-202-5645. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.  

Row House Units 11, 303 Gore Creek Drive  
Single lane closures are scheduled for deliveries throughout the summer  months; pending public way permit approval, traffic control will be provided. Project consists of an interior/exterior remodel and addition. Project completion date has yet TBD. Contractor is SRE Building Associates, Casey Brune, 970-376-5568. Covered Bridge Pocket Park Renovation, 221 Bridge Street 
Construction of improvements to the Covered Bridge Pocket Park will begin Sept. 23 and require approximately 6 weeks to compete. Project consists of minor grading to construct a bioswale, streambank stabilization and walking surfaces, landscaping and irrigation. Project completion date is Nov. 20. Contractor is Rocky Mountain Custom Landscapes, Brian Robinson, 970-331-6171. Town of Vail contact is Todd Oppenheimer, 970-390-4678. 

Lionshead

Lionshead Parking Structure, 350 S. Frontage Road  
Beginning the week of October 5, the west ramp of the Lionshead parking structure will be closed on all three levels for structural repair. The structure entry point during this repair will be the west entry on the ground level only. The exit way will be the east ramp from all levels to the top deck and then out the east third level exit only. The project will last approximately three weeks. Outlying

Snowshoe Drainage Improvements, East Vail  
Beginning Sept. 21, Ewing Trucking and Construction will begin construction of the Snowshoe Drainage Improvements Project. The project consists of improved roadside ditch to increase capacity along Snowshoe Lane, culvert replacement at the intersections of Main Gore Drive/Snowshoe Lane and Main Gore Drive/Grouse Lane and under two private driveways along Main Gore Drive between Black Gore Drive and Grouse Lane. Work will require a single lane closure. Work is to be completed by Oct. 31. The Town of Vail contact is Chad Salli, 970-376-2389.  

Xcel Energy, New Gas Main, Bighorn Road  
Xcel Energy has contracted with Sitewise Corporation to install 1,300 feet of gas main line on the westbound bike lane of Bighorn Road between Spruce Way and 3944 Bighorn Road. Work is to be completed by mid-October.  When excavation work has been completed, disturbed area will be milled and a new 2” asphalt overlay will be installed. Traffic control will be provided. Bighorn Road will be narrowed; please use caution in the work area. Contractor is Sitewise Corp., Jarrett Schaub, 303-430-1414. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677. 

Xcel Energy, Juniper Lane  
Xcel Energy has contracted with Sitewise Corp. to excavate and install a new gas main on Juniper Lane from the intersection of Meadow Drive/Juniper Lane to the intersection of Main Gore Drive/Juniper Lane. Completion is scheduled for Nov. 15. A full asphalt mill and overlay of Juniper Lane is required and scheduled pending weather conditions. Traffic control will be provided. Contractor is Sitewise Corp, Jarrett Schaub, 303-430-1414; Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677. 

Xcel Energy, Nugget Lane, East Vail  
Gas line work is complete and asphalt repairs are underway. Mill and asphalt overlay is scheduled for mid-September. Traffic control will be provided. Access on Nugget Lane will be maintained to all residences. Contractor is Sitewise Corp, contact is Jarrett Schaub, 303-430-1414. Town of Vail Contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4977. 

Bighorn Townhouses/Garage and Trash Enclosure, 4722 Meadow Lane  
Work consists of 7 new vehicle parking garages, additional parking spaces and a trash enclosure. Completion date is mid-November. Contractor is Rocky Mountain GC, LLC; Jason Herzog, 970-376-3884. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.  

Stephens Park Play Area Renovation 
The Stephens Park play area has reopened to the public. A large climbing wall component will be installed during late October and the art installation will occur during the spring of 2021. All other park facilities are open. Construction access will be along the gravel road from Kinnikinnick Road. Town of Vail contact is Gregg Barrie, 970-390-3286. 

Town of Vail Asphalt Overlay 
Crews hired by the Town of Vail are milling and repaving Chamonix Road and Bighorn Road from the East Vail interchange to Bridge Road. The work is taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and will continue to Sept. 25, weather dependent.  Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers during work hours. The project contractor is 360 Paving, LLC of Gypsum. I-70 Vail East to West Resurfacing Project 
CDOT and contract partner Elam Construction have begun a resurfacing project on I-70 from mile marker 172 to 187 through Vail. The project has an anticipated completion date of October 2020. This project will include an asphalt overlay, maintenance repairs to several bridge-decks and installing guardrail that meet the new safety standard requirements. Additional work includes rumble strip installation, striping, drainage improvements, sign installation and erosion control. Motorists can expect east and westbound single lane closures, 10-15 minute delays and minor detours on the bike path.
