When eastbound Interstate 70 closes over Vail Pass, our police department is immediately called into action to help direct travelers off the interstate and into the parking garages to provide a safe respite until the road reopens. Also, a checkpoint is established on the South Frontage Road at Ford Park to maintain local access to the East Vail neighborhoods. For parking pass holders, these road closure circumstances should have no impact on how you use your pass.
If you’re a Pink or Green pass holder, please proceed to Ford Park or the soccer field for access to your permit parking areas. If you’re a Gold, Silver, Blue or Green pass holder, please proceed to the corresponding parking structure(s) for access as you would ordinarily do. For Value Card holders, know that parking may be free only for the duration of the Vail Pass closure. Once I-70 has been reopened, paid parking will resume.
Never park on the South Frontage Road unless a parking emergency has been declared and overflow parking has been released. It is only under these circumstances, that free parking is allowed on the Frontage Road until 11 p.m.
