The Building Department Team is responsible for administering the town's building codes through the permitting process and ensuring construction in Vail meets the highest safety standards.
The building department is proud to announce a new quarterly education series for local contractors, designers, and other building professionals. The quarterly series will bring industry and building professionals together for a collaborative education opportunity. Registration for each session will be required, as space is limited.
The Town of Vail requires that all electrical and plumbing contractors performing work, within the town limits, to maintain propery licensing through the State of Colorado. In addition contractors must maintain a current Town Contractor Registration. Town Contractor Registration can be accessed here.
As required by Colorado Revised Statutes, the Town of Vail shall conduct contemporaneous reviews of electrical and plumbing contractor licensing through Colorado DORA. The policies and procedures relating to how these reviews are performed can be found on the Building Policies page.
Customers will now apply for all permits through the Town's 24/7 Customer Portal. In addition to applying for permits, customers can now request inspections on-line and track the status of their applications.
Contractors now have multiple options available for requesting inspections.
All building inspections received by 4pm by either the town’s inspection line or by email, will receive a confirmation email indicating a Morning or Afternoon Inspection.

The Vail Village and Lionshead Village are invaluable assets to the community. Thousands of people come to Vail each year to sightsee, recreate, shop and to enjoy everything the Vail Valley has to offer. The community and merchants rely upon our guests to generate revenue. Our summer/winter guests expect a pleasant experience while in Vail.
To insure all of the proposed construction has as little negative impact on the community and on our guests as possible, the Town of Vail finds it imperative to create, implement the Vail Village and Lionshead Village Construction Information Handout.
It would be irresponsible for the Town of Vail, the construction contractors and the merchants, to not actively participate to minimize the impact of construction in the Vail and Lionshead Village areas.

Examples are a boiler failure that occurred over the weekend during the winter or the sewer line collapsed and needs to be repaired immediately. In the case of an emergency repair or replacement the building official should be notified as soon as reasonable at 970-479-2142 or email Building Official. A building permit application is required to be submitted the next business day. Emergency repairs or replacements are required to comply with the applicable Vail Town Code and all work must be performed by a contractor registered in the Town of Vail.
