Town Council Invites Public Comment on Draft MOU Document Prepared to Implement Alternative Housing Sites Initiative at Aug. 4 Meeting

The Vail Town Council is inviting community members to offer public comment on a draft memorandum of understanding document that outlines a series of steps between the town, Vail Resorts and Triumph Development that will determine future ownership and use of the Booth Heights property in East Vail while addressing the community priorities of housing and wildlife protection. If implemented as drafted, the Town of Vail will obtain the title to the Booth Heights parcel in the future. The draft MOU is the result of nearly six months of review and consideration by the Vail Town Council.

Details on the additional public comment opportunities for the Aug. 4 meeting will be announced shortly. This follows public comment that occurred at the July 21 Town Council meeting.

The Booth Heights property is currently owned by Vail Resorts while Triumph Development has a contract to acquire the site for construction of an approved housing development. Efforts to identify alternative approaches to the development have been underway since January when Mayor Dave Chapin announced the Town Council’s desire to pursue a win-win outcome. This has included exploration of partnership opportunities with Vail Resorts and Triumph Development to provide housing on alternate sites for a minimum of 144 people, as has been approved for the Booth Heights development, by November 2022, and an opportunity for the town to control future land use on Booth Heights by obtaining the title to the parcel
