A Special Event Permit is required for any organized activity involving the use of, or having impact upon, public property, public facilities, parks, sidewalks, street areas or the temporary use of private or public property in a manner that varies from its current land use. Permit applications should be submitted to the Special Events Coordinator at specialevents@vailgov.com at least 45 days in advance of the event on our dedicated vailpermits.com website. Once registered on our application website you can submit, save, review, and copy Special Event Permit Applications online.
The Town of Vail maintains display sites for banners that represent community events or are sponsored by a nonprofit organization and that promote activities that take place primarily within the Town of Vail. Contact the Special Events Coordinator at specialevents@vailgov.com, or 970-477-3551, at least 10 days prior to your requested dates to confirm site availability.
Applications for an annual Amplified Sound Permit may be made to the Town Manager via the Vail Police Department. Contact Vail Police Records at 970-479-2210 or at vailpolice@vailgov.com. A permit may be granted if it is determined that it is necessary for the community’s cultural, historical or social benefit. Special Event Amplified Sound Permits may also be required as part of a Special Event Permit Application if amplified sound is to be a part of the proposed Special Event.
A Transient Dealer is a person who sells and delivers from a stock in much the same way as a permanent business. However, this type of vendor generally sets up temporary shop in a building, tent or trailer. Every person, before transacting any business shall first procure from the Sales Tax Administrator at ajakubiec@vailgov.com, or 970-479-2125, a license permitting him or her to engage in any of the selling. (Town Code: 4-8-4)
It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell or possess for sale any alcohol beverage unless licensed to do so as provided by law. Applications for a liquor license may be made to the Local Licensing Authority Administrator at sbibbens@vailgov.com, or phone (970) 479-2460.
The Special Business Promotions Permit provides an opportunity for an individual business to hold a promotional event extending beyond the interior premises of the business location and that provides additional activities beyond day-to-day business. Outdoor sales of goods alone are not eligible for a special business promotion permit. Please review the guidelines and schedule your dates with the Special Events Coordinator at specialevents@vailgov.com, or (970) 477-3551, prior to submitting your application.
Any tent over 10’x12’ is required to have a tent permit. Canopies are tents without walls, and unless of unusually large size, do not require a tent permit. Please use this form only if your event does not require a complete Special Event Permit application, which is required for all events taking place on Town of Vail property, or within a public right of way.
A Street Artisan is a person who creates and sells portraits, landscapes, streetscapes and/or other types of two dimensional art on paper, canvas, or similar material while on public streets, property, or rights of way. Applications shall be made to the Special Events Coordinator at specialevents@vailgov.com. Permits shall be granted when such application is deemed by the staff of the Town to be compatible with surrounding uses, business and pedestrian activity and other considerations to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the community. A Street Entertainer is a person who performs mime, magic, music, juggling, comedy, story telling, or other types of entertainment on public streets, property, or rights of way at no charge to the public. Applications shall be made to the Special Events Coordinator at specialevents@vailgov.com. Permits shall be granted when such application is deemed by the staff of the Town to be compatible with surrounding uses, business and pedestrian activity and other considerations to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the community. Design Review Board Appeals Form
This form is required for filing an appeal of a Staff, Design Review Board, or Planning and Environmental Commission action/decision. A complete form and associated requirements must be submitted to the Community Development Department within twenty calendar days of the disputed action/decision.
DRB Joint Property Owner Letter
Joint property owner sign off is required when applying for any Design Review or Planning and Environmental Applications. This applies to duplex and condominium homeowners.
Utility Approval & Verification
This form serves to verify that the proposed improvements will not impact any existing or proposed utility services, and also to verify service availability and location for new construction and should be used in conjunction with preparing your utility plan and scheduling installations. NOTE: This form is attached to the DRB Minor Alteration, DRB New Construction and DRB Addition applications.

A home occupation is a use conducted entirely within a dwelling and is incidental and secondary to the use of the dwelling for dwelling purposes. Must be renewed on an annual basis.

Town of Vail Building, Plumbing, Mechanical Permit Applications
This packet is for Commercial Properties including Multi-Family Residences. Permits are required when a structure is erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted or demolished. Any exterior work performed on a structure must first obtain Design Review Board approval prior to submitting a permit.

Employee Housing Unit (EHU) Map - coded by general requirement category. As of May 1, 2015, there are 701 deed restricted employee housing units within the Town of Vail. This includes a mix of rental and for-sale units, some of which additionally contain a price appreciation cap. These units are dispersed from East Vail to West Vail. For exact requirements, please see the deed restriction recorded for a specific property. Please contact the Town of Vail Community Development Department with questions regarding EHU deed restrictions.
The Avalanche Hazard map was created based on an Evaluation of the Snow Avalanche Hazard in the Valley of Gore Creek report performed by the Institute of Artic and Alpine Research 1977. A copy of the Evaluation of the Snow Avalanche Hazard in the Valley of Gore Creek , Eagle County, Colorado, report can be obtained by contacting the Town of Vail Community Development Department.
The Debris Flow Hazard map was created based on a Debris Flow and Debris Avalanche Hazard Analysis performed by Arthur Mears, P.E. Inc. in 1984. (An additional study was performed for the Highland Meadows neighborhoods of Vail however this information cannot be accessed on-line). A copy of the Debris Flow and Debris Avalanche Hazard Analysis can be obtained by contacting the Town of Vail Community Development Department.
The Rock Fall Hazard map was created based on a Rockfall Study performed by Schmueser & Associates in 1984. (An additional study was performed for the Highland Meadows neighborhoods of Vail however this information cannot be accessed on-line). A copy of the Rockfall Study can be obtained by contacting the Town of Vail Community Development Department.

These regulations are promulgated for specific businesses and specific circumstances. They shall apply in addition to and have the same effect as the numbered sales tax rules and regulations. Unless otherwise noted, all references herein to Title 4, Chapter 3 or any section or subsection shall refer to Title 4, Chapter 3 of the Town of Vail Municipal Code, and all references herein to rules or regulations shall refer to the numbered Sales Tax Rules and Regulators. These special regulations were adopted by the Town Manager pursuant to Title 4, Chapter 3, Section 1-8, which states: "The Town Manager may adopt rules and regulations in conformity with this Title 4, Chapter 3 for the proper administration and enforcement of this Title 4, Chapter 3".
